S112 Speckled Brown Stoneware Clay

S112 Speckled Brown Stoneware Clay
(Cone 4-6)
S-112 Speckled Brown Stoneware Clay is lightly textured, a
plastic clay with 4% fine grog that is excellent for throwing and
modeling. S-112 clay has granular manganese gives a speckled surface that
is attractive both glazed and unglazed. On the left is Cone 4 in
oxidation, the color is a light warm brown with light manganese
speckling. On the right is Cone 6 , the color becomes a darker to a
medium brown, with more pronounced speckling as the clay approaches Cone
6. As manganese is gaseous at higher temperatures use a slower
firing to avoid trapped surface gases that can cause glaze bubbling.
Good results may also be expected in reduction firings.
S-112 Speckled Brown Stoneware Clay is identical to S-225
Brown Stoneware Clay except for
the granular manganese which is added to S-112.
